1912 First appearance of Modern Pentathlon to the Olympic Games

1948 Creation of the International Union of Modern Pentathlon

1952 the classification by addition of the places obtained in the five tests is replaced, as from 1954, by a system of attribution of points corresponding to the recorded performances

1962 Reduction of the expenses of organization of the test of horsemanship: the course of cross-country race is brought back from 5000 to 2500 m and each horse will carry out two courses.

1969 Replacement of the equestrian test of cross-country race by a horse show of 800 m

1975 Presentation of the departure handicap for the cross-country race country. The first which crosses the finishing line becomes the final winner of the competition

1977 First female international test in the USA

1980 the equestrian course is tiny room to 600 m

1981 the five tests will be concentrated on 4 and either over 5 days. The tests of shooting and cross-country race country will proceed the same day with an interval as short as possible. This measure is intended to avoid any recourse to doping for the shooting. First Championship of the female World in London. The five tests proceed again over five days. Control antidopage is carried out in all the tests, except in horsemanship

1989 A new 4 days of competition. The tests will proceed in the following order: Fencing, then swimming and Shooting the same Race day and finally horsemanship. The departure of the race will be done every 30 seconds and not every minute. The new target of the International Union of shooting is adopted by the UIPMB. The scale of shooting is modified, for 1000 points, one needs now 182 point-targets, each point-target giving 15 points.

1990 Creation of the World cup. First Championship of the World of relay juniors Men and Women. At the time of the General Assembly with Amélie-the-Baths-Palalda, the two Biathion disciplines and Pentathlon Moderne decide to continue their co-operation under the same " cap " but each sport will now have its Executive committee and its own buildings.

Proposal of the UIPM with the C.I.O.

 ·to organize Modern Pentathlon, for the Olympic Games, over one day for the individual test and to replace the classification by teams, a test of relay.

 ·to include the women with the Olympic program, without modification of the number of day of competition, nor of the total number of participants

 ·command of the tests to the Olympic Games: Shooting, Fencing, Swimming, Horsemanship, Race

1993

 Horsemanship: course reduced to 350/400 m - 12 obstacles

 Fencing: duration of the attacks: 1 minute

 Swimming: command of the series according to times of engagement

 Race: in series or departure handicap All surfaces of the ground are accepted

1994 the shooting with balls is replaced by the shooting with lead to 10 m on fixed targets.

1996 Olympic Games organized over one day: Shooting, Fencing, Swimming, Horsemanship, Race 32 participants qualified according to the Championships of the World 1995 and out of 3 qualificative tests organized in 1996 In spite of the reduction of the number of participants (32 instead of 66) in the Olympic Games, and of the number of days of competition (1 instead of 4), the C.I.O. did not accept the participation of the women.
